Event introduction
The competition aims to endear Chinese culture, carry forward a national spirit, increase the ideological and moral standards of high school students, and improve their writing abilities.
Enrollment
First organized in 2005, the National Secondary School Essay Writing Competition is hosted by the China National Children’s Center of the All-China Women’s Federation and the Secondary School Press Professional Commission of the Professionals’ Association of China Children’s Press, under the academic guidance of the Chinese Language Teaching in Secondary School Professional Commission of the Chinese Society of Education. The competition aims to endear Chinese culture, carry forward a national spirit, increase the ideological and moral standards of high school students, and improve their writing abilities.

Objectives:
1. Promote Chinese culture and a spirit of patriotism;
2. Encourage high school students in Macao to create and improve their writing abilities;
3. Encourage high school students to think more broadly, take interest in society, and develop literary accomplishment and thoughts.
Eligibility: Any full-time high school student in Macao
Entry groups:
1. Junior High School Group (full-time grade seven to grade nine in the current school year) ;
2. Senior High School Group (full-time grade ten to grade twelve in the current school year).
Registration method: Log into http://www.myf-composition.com and fill in the information required for registration.
Registration dates: From now until November 24, 2018
Submission of essays: Essays must be submitted to [email protected] by December 7, 2018
Competition procedure:
1. Preliminary: For the Macao Area, no more than 20 excellent essays (no more than 40 essays altogether) will be selected from the senior and junior high school groups in mid- and late December of 2018 and sent to the competition organizers for further assessment.
2. Intermediary: The organizers will assess essays sent from each competition area from January to March of 2019 and select outstanding applicants to enter the final.
3. Final: Judged by the Assessment Committee, the selected essays will enter the final round in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, in April of 2019.
Judging panel: An expert jury will be organized for the Macao Area to assess all essays in the preliminary;
The intermediary and final will be assessed by a separate jury of the competition.
Awards: 1. Macao Area: Preliminary
Merit Award of Junior High School Group: 20 winners.
Merit Award of Senior High School Group: 20 winners.
Nationwide final
Each entrant who enters the final and his/her tutor will receive a special award.
2. Nationwide: The top applicants in the final will receive special awards from the organizers.
Preliminary rules:
1. The topic of the essays must be chosen from the topics specified for the competition (please refer to the attached table of topics) ;
2. The essays must be submitted in the form of Word (.doc) digital files (traditional or simplified Chinese);
3. Plagiarism is strictly prohibited; it is also forbidden to include any real school name, personal name, or
other identifying information in the essay body. Those who violate the rules will be disqualified;
4. The email subject and file name of the word document should be in the format of “school + Junior High
School Group/Senior High School Group + name + essay topic”;
5. Each participant may only submit one essay.
Supplementary provisions:
1. The organizers shall have the right to compile the winning entries into one book without the consent of
the authors, and the copyright will be owned by the organizers;
2. The organizers shall be responsible for the food and accommodation arrangements for the eligible
participants of the final in Zhengzhou, Henan Province.
3. The organizer of the Macao Area shall have the right to amend the Competition Rules and have the final
interpretation of its contents.
